| MacArthur (1 Timothy) Details |
- 1 Timothy - This epistle was written to encourage and strengthen a young pastor whom Paul had discipled, in whom he had great confidence, and for whom he had great love as a spiritual father.
1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, and Titus belong to the group of Paul’s writings known as the Pastoral Epistles. They are so named because they were addressed to two of Paul’s dear sons in the faith, Timothy and Titus, who had pastoral duties. Timothy was in charge of the church at Ephesus, and Titus of those on the island of Crete. As the last of his letters to be written, they alone inform us of the later years of his ministry. Public worship, the selection and qualifications of church leaders, the pastor’s personal life and public ministry, how to confront sin in the church, the role of women, the care of widows, and how to handle money are among the matters discussed. They also teach important doctrinal truths about the Scriptures, salvation, and the Savior. |
