John Nelson Darby was an Anglo-Irish Bible teacher and became an influential figure among the original Plymouth Brethren. He published translations of the Bible in French and German but most notable was this English translation of the Bible based on original Hebrew and Greek manuscripts.
In his day he was regarded as a leading interpreter of Biblical prophecy and is now considered to be the father of modern Dispensationalism. His interpretations are still being taught at such places as Dallas Theological Seminary and Bob Jones University and by authors and preachers such as Hal Lindsey and Tim LaHaye.
Additionally he wrote a Synopsis of the Bible and many other scholarly religious articles. He wrote hymns and poems, the most famous being, Man of Sorrows.
